I stumbled upon this video while…well, stumbling. I was fortunate to find it on YouTube so that I could embed it here to share. Here are the facts:

This is a commercial for the new Honda Accord. This video was shot in real time without the aid of computer generated graphics. The shoot required 606 takes, costed $6 million, and took 3 months to film.

The steps of the sequence were so precisely set up that the crew literally had to tip toe around the set for fear of disturbing things, which led to some unexpected problems. “As the day went on, the studio would get hotter,” says Steiner. “It meant that the wood would expand and the cog or exhaust that spins around would move slightly faster.” These tiny changes made big differences to the precision set-up of the equipment……

…..The sequence where the tires roll up a slope looks particularly impressive but is very simple. Steiner says that there is a weight in each tire and when the tire is knocked, the weight is displaced and in an attempt to rebalance itself, the tire rolls up the slope.

This is another one of those fun widget reviews. Last.fm has some customizeable widgets for your blog, MySpace, Facebook, or wherever you want to put it. Hardcore bloggers out there may be asking how they can use this widget on their blog as it’s not really the thing to have “fun” widgets in your sidebar unless your blog is personal. Well, if music is important to you, and you’d like to share, why not put the widget on your About page.

Music can create an ambiance that makes your blog an experience and sets it apart from others. Sure, it’ perfectly feasible not to use items like this on your front page, but there’s not a thing wrong with using it on your static pages to create a fun environment while your readers learn more about you. If you’re really into your music, Last.fm’s widgets are a great way to share that. You could have a Top 40 page and play the top songs from your widget. You could create a playlist of your best picks for download. There are a hundred ways to use these widgets, so don’t write them off because there are no dollar signs.Think outside of the box and find ways to use them to bring you traffic and make your blog sticky.

This widget plays music by and related to your favorite artist. If you’ve ever used Pandora, it works a lot like that. Basically, you type in the name of an artist you enjoy, and the widget plays songs by that artist, and artists that sound similar to that person.
This widget is called a quilt. It creates a “quilt” comprised of the album covers of the artist you specify.

Last.fm also allows users to embed playlists, charts, and more. If you create a free account, Last.fm will pull songs directly from your computer and load them up on your profile widget. In addition, you can also download their free software which allows you to play your own songs and well as listen to tracks from Last.fm.These are fun widgets that any creative blogger or webmaster can find a use for.
Google continues to expand…a brief into Google Labs will tell you that much. There, users can check out recent releases from Google as well as what they have in the pipeline. However, we’d be stupid to think that they list all of their secrets there for the world to peruse.

There are some people out there who hate Google because of the way it has taken over the web…then there are those of us who have used the giant from the beginning and don’t mind so much that it now has the run of the web. I, personally, choose not to really think about Google being somewhat of a dictatorship in power, but rather a nifty asset. Who can complain about an internet mogul whose user-friendly, one-of-a-kind tools are always FREE? Certainly not I.

So, the word is that Google has plans to use it’s status and monetary advantage to create a platform that works a lot like Wikipedia…only better. Google Knol, named for it’s underlying “knowledge unit” mechanisms, will serve as Google’s answer to internet giant and traffic whore, Wikipedia.

Like Wikipedia, Knol will host an encyclopedic web of pages under the control of the users who create them. There will be multiple Knols for each topic and Google expects the more popular pages to climb in rankings. Knol holds an incentive over Wikipedia. You guessed it, Adsense on the pages. The higher the ranking, the better the user’s chance of fattening their wallet. The only downside is that user’s should expect to share a part of that revenue with Google. After all, they are footing the bill.

Keep a look out for Knol. As with most Google products, it’s bound to be worth checking out. Google has yet to set a release date or timeline for completion for this project, but it is in the testing phase.
